Frequently Asked Questions on rTMS TBS dTMS & TDCS
These are advanced, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques used to treat various psychiatric and neurological conditions by modulating specific brain circuits involved in symptoms.
rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)
rTMS uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate or regulate specific areas of the brain involved in conditions such as depression, OCD, anxiety disorders, addiction, migraine and stroke rehabilitation.
Deep TMS (dTMS)
Deep TMS is an advanced form of TMS that can stimulate deeper brain structures implicated in resistant depression and OCD. At Somnos RTMS Clinic, we use a Double Cone Coil (DCC) Deep TMS system for deeper cortical stimulation in selected patients. Deep TMS is particularly useful in certain treatment-resistant cases and specific brain targets that are difficult to reach with conventional rTMS.
Theta Burst Stimulation (TBS)
Theta Burst Stimulation is a newer and more time-efficient form of rTMS. While conventional rTMS sessions may last 20–45 minutes, TBS sessions usually take only 3–5 minutes while offering comparable or sometimes superior clinical outcomes.
tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation)
tDCS uses a very mild electrical current delivered through electrodes placed on the scalp. It is painless, safe and often used in depression, anxiety disorders, cognitive rehabilitation, memory problems, stroke rehabilitation and language rehabilitation.
